G7: in dialogue with civil society

Engagement Groups G7: in dialogue with civil society

An integral part of every G7 Presidency is to engage with a range of different interest groups – the so-called Engagement Groups. This dialogue has a long tradition and serves to actively involve civil society in the G7 process.

An integral part of every G7 Presidency is to engage with a range of different interest groups – the so-called Engagement Groups. This dialogue has a long tradition and serves to actively involve civil society in the G7 process.

Under the German Presidency in 2022, the current seven Engagement Groups will also be given the opportunity to comment on topics on the G7 agenda and to provide stimuli:

  • Business community (Business7)
  • Non-governmental organisations (Civil7)
  • Trade unions (Labour7)
  • Science (Science7)
  • Think-tanks (Think7)
  • Women (Women7)
  • Youth (Youth7)

The Engagement Groups are organised autonomously and independently. Their respective leadership is assumed by a non-governmental representative from the host country. The latter is appointed by the current G7 Presidency.

Pursuing its own work process, each group develops a position paper and recommendations for action on topics on the G7 agenda. It hands over its final document to the G7 Presidency before the summit.
