The reconstruction of Ukraine was discussed at an international expert conference in Berlin hosted by the German G7 Presidency and the EU Commission. “Ukraine cannot manage it alone. The European Union cannot manage it alone either. It can only be achieved by the entire global community, which is now lending its support to Ukraine,” stressed Federal Chancellor Scholz.
The International Expert Conference on the Recovery, Reconstruction and Modernisation of Ukraine will take place in Berlin on 25 October 2022. Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz and EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen will be opening the event. The keynote speech will be held by the Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
The G7 countries are working together as close friends and allies – this was stressed by Federal Chancellor Scholz after the Summit in Elmau. “The meeting was an impressive demonstration of our unity and our determination,” he said. The G7 fully supports Ukraine, plans to fight world hunger and is leading the way in climate protection.
The G7 Heads of State and Government discussed one topic in particular – the war in Ukraine. Federal Chancellor Scholz stressed that the war would shape international relations for a long time to come. “In relations with Russia, there can be no going back to the time before the Russian invasion of Ukraine.”
“Progress towards an equitable world” – this is the goal Germany set itself on taking over the G7 Presidency at the beginning of the year. The outcomes of the Summit show that the G7 format is worthwhile and effective. With the commitments they made at Schloss Elmau, the G7 leaders took a major step towards achieving this goal.
Germany has held the G7 Presidency since 1 January 2022. “Progress towards an equitable world” – this is the goal of the German G7 Presidency has set itself for its programme. It will culminate in the summit of the G7 heads of state and government from 26 to 28 June in Schloss Elmau.
