Tasks and goals of Labour7

The L7 campaigns for the rights and interests of working people. It aims to pass on the core messages of the global trade union movement – before and during the trade ministers’ meetings and the G7 Leaders’ Summit. For the dialogue with the G7, the L7 independently develops common positions on the topics on the G7 agenda which it feeds into the political process.

Members of the Labour7

The members of the L7 are the trade union confederations of the G7 countries. The L7 aspires to conduct an inclusive dialogue beyond the G7 countries. Broader involvement takes place in particular through cooperation with the Trade Union Advisory Committee (TUAC), as well as the International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC) and the Global Union Federations (worldwide umbrella organisations of DGB affiliates). Under the German Presidency, the L7 is coordinated by the German Trade Union Confederation (DGB).

Labour7 priorities

The world is facing major challenges that trade unions are addressing. The priorities of the L7 chair this year are: a just transition to climate neutrality, solidarity-based crisis and pandemic management and socially just digitalisation. In addition, the L7 chair aims to use the dialogue to advance the declaration of occupational health and safety as a core labour standard and the enforcement of human rights due diligence obligations along global value chains at the international level.

These and other topics will be the subject of talks with Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz, Labour Minister Hubertus Heil, Development Minister Svenja Schulze and Secretary of State Michael Kellner, which took place at the L7 summit in Berlin from 11 to 13 May 2022.
